Recital Checklist!

Our Annual Student Production is just around the bend, Scheduled for Tuesday June 16 @ 7:00 pm. Please go through the following information regarding performance preparations....Any questions or concerns please e-mail Amy@PittsburghDancExplosion.com or Michelle@PittsburghDancExplosion.com.

LOCATION: Kean Theatre on the St. Barnabas Campus.
CALL TIME: Dancers report to Theatre by 6:00 pm
ENSEMBLE CALL: Ensemble report to dressing room at 5:00 pm
DOORS OPEN for Audience: 6:30
SHOW TIME: 7:00 promptly
No Classes June 15th.

THINGS TO KNOW

1. No Food or Drink (bottled water only) allowed in theatre or dressing rooms.

2. Be sure that every piece of costuming & shoes is labeled with your dancers last name (on masking tape)

3. All dancers must have hair/make-up done before coming to the theatre. ALL CLASSES: Hair down with bangs pulled back. TUMBLING STUDENTS: low ponytail, no bangs. ENSEMBLE: As discussed.

4. Eye shadows in natural tones, as well as a rose or peach blush. Stage Lights wash out the faces that are not highlighted with appropriate make-up. NO BLUE or GREEN shadows please!

5. No Jewelry

6. No game boys, i-pods, or cell phones. We will not be responsible for lost items.

7. Clear finger/toenail polish only.

8. No Panties...they hang out & show under tights and costumes.

9. Finale attire...recital t-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes. Any complimenting shoes and shorts are acceptable.

10. ONLY BACKSTAGE ASSISTANTS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE BACKSTAGE/DRESSING AREAS!

11. Parents and Guests, please do not go into the dressing areas or roam the halls of ST Barnabas. This is the residents' home & we need to respect that. All dancers remain in dressing area until end of show. At that time, they will be escorted back to their parents.

REMEMBER: No Flash Photography or Videotaping. All families will be getting a DVD of the performance. Failure to comply will result in dismissal from the event.

****Our Dancers have worked very hard for this presentation and deserve your applause. Only enter and exit the theatre between numbers. Keep talking to a minimum and turn off cell phones. *******

Did you remember to?

1. Pay account in full... including June tuition, late fees, costumes, or ensemble expenses

2. Purchase tickets for the performance....All seats are reserved. Tickets cost $10 purchased between June 1st and June 15th. Tickets will be $12 at the door. ONLY STUDENTS will accounts paid in full can purchase tickets.

3. Spray paint dance shoes....if necessary. The accessory sheet is still posted on the lobby bulletin board.

4. Gathered all pieces of costuming needs for each routine.

5. Received Finale shirt....t-shirts will be handed out at time of ticket purchase.

6. Register for Summer Dance....Great time to advance skills and have fun with new friends

7. Order your copy of the yearbook...$10 if you did not place an ad. The yearbook is free if ad was placed. Distributed prior to the start of the show.

8. Pack bottled water for your dancer for the show. Snacks are provided for the kids backstage. Please feed your child an early dinner....the show is late in the evening.

Tremaine Dance

The weekend of April 18 & 19, Pittsburgh DancExplosion Ensemble participated in the the Tremaine Dance Convention and Competition. Both Amy, Michelle, & the ensemble girls participated in classes instructed by master Teachers. Tremaine's featured master teachers are Joe Tremaine, Desiree Robbins, Keri LaGrand, Jeff Amsden, and more. Participating in the even was Emma Chammas, Allison Chammas, Jenna Markovich, Angie Hedglin, Kelly Gallagher, and Alyssa Ferris.

Kean Idol FINALS '09

On March 29, 2009, Pittsburgh DancExplosion ensemble dancers competed in the sixth annual Kean Idol FINAL amateur talent contest. Proceeds from the contest benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund. This fund has has provided more than $5.8 million to needy patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods and The Arbors who otherwise would not be able to afford their care.

Qualifying for the event Finals was Angie Hedglin (soloist), Kelly Gallagher (soloist), and Special Two, the trio of Emma, Jenna, & Kelly.

What a fantastic opportunity and performance girls! Way to Rock the Kean Stage!

PDE to Shoot New Commercial!
Pittsburgh DancExplosion will be shooting a new commercial to advertise our tremendous students! Filming will take place on Thursday, April 2. If you would like to participate in the filming of the commercial, that will air on several cable channels, your dancer will need sign up at the front desk. Each parent/guardian will need to sign a release waiver for your dancer to participate. The week before the event, Michelle and Amy will let the dancers know what time to attend and what to wear.

Costumes for Annual Student Production
Costume Balances are due by 4/1/09. Do not forget that costume payments are all inclusive. Payments include costume, tights (if needed), DVD, & Recital T-shirt. Remember only accounts paid will be permitted to take studio pictures.

Class Picture Day
PDE has scheduled class picture day for Wednesday, APRIL 15! There will be no classes this evening. Please remember that these pictures will appear in the Recital Yearbook & will be used in local advertising. Attendance is strongly encouraged! Sign-up in advance to have solo pictures taken.

2009 Student Yearbook
PDE is beginning preparation for our student yearbook. Last years, 07/08 Yearbook was a tremendous success! Our fabulous yearbook includes class pictures, student highlights, & motivational notes from parents & fellow students. Parents & local businesses can purchase a ¼ page, ½ page, or whole page to dedicate to their special dancer or a simple one line shout out. Advertisements aid in keeping yearbook costs low. Please ask the front desk to view last years souvenier yearbook!

Dance Teddy Bears
Mark the annual student production as a extra special event for your child by purchasing them a teddy bear. Available in colors brown or white, the jazz, ballet, or boy bear will have our studio name & performance date embroidered on them. For an extra charge, you can have your bear personalized with your child’s name. Look out for additional information and a sample of these cuddly pals!

Annual Student Production
The student Production is on June 16th at 7:30 pm at Kean Theatre on the St. Barnabus campus. Tickets go on sale beginning June 1, 2009. All seat are reserved. There will only be one performance. Tickets are $10 each.

Accounts
A friendly reminder that all accounts must be paid in full by May 31st. Only paid accounts will be able to purchase tickets for the annual student production.

Summer Dance 2009
Pittsburgh DancExplosion announces Summer Dance 2009. The summer session is a 6-week session meeting on Tuesdays & Wednesdays fro 6 weeks from July 7th-August 11th. A class schedule is already posted on the web, check it out! More information to come!

Spring Break—No Classes
The studio will be will be closed for Spring Break from April 6th-April 11th. Classes will resume April 13th.

Memorial Day—No Classes

The studio will be closed in observence of Memorial Day on May 25, 2009.

CCAC Classes
PDE will once again be offering CCAC classes for adults & small children in the summer. As classes become available, participants can register & pay online at www.ccac.edu by clicking on Community Education or register by phone at 412-237-2670.

Congratulations to Alyssa Ferris for earning a scholarship to La Roche College Summer Dance Program! Great Job, Alyssa!

Way to go Mallory Marinack, former PDE student and current Point Park University student, for being accepted & planning to attend the Boston Ballet Summer Program!

Congrats also go out to Ben Belhuemer, former PDE student, for being accepted into the Alvin Ailey Summer Program!

Tuition Reminder
Tuition payments are due the 1st lesson of the month. Payments that are paid after the 10th of the month will incur a late fee. There will be no exceptions.

Class Attendance
Please remember that it is essential to your dancer to arrive to class on-time. The beginning of class is structured to greet, warm-up, & get the dancer prepared for the class ahead of them. Late students miss these events as well as distract the other students. In addition, Student Production routines are in full throttle right now. If a child misses class, they are missing valuable time needed to learn and perfect their class dance piece. Thank you!

Winter Performance is a Success!

Once again, Pittsburgh DancExplosion's annual winter performance is a huge success for our dance studio and dance families! Held at Ross Community Center on January 24, our students put on a great show; highlighting their love for dance and excitement! Not only was the performance a great time for dancer's to get extra stage experience, the annual costume fundraiser helped to raise enough money so that each family will save 25% on costumes!

From Amy & Michelle:
A great big "thank you" to the parents and students for participation and support. To our staff, Ashley & Gretchen, thank you for your great teaching and keeping the performance running smooth. Also to our classroom assistants, Emma, Allison, Jenna, & Kelly, for your priceless help with the kids!

Looking forward to the next performances on the horizon: supporting our local nursing homes through performances, Children's Arts Festival, Idlewild, and our annual recital!

Pittsburgh DancExplosion is currently accepting resumes for a part-time dance instructor position. We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our staff. Training in all genres of dance with experience working with many levels of students is necessary. Concentration in Advance Tap or all levels of Tumbling would be preferred!

On January 17, Pittsburgh DancExplosion Ensemble participated in the Starbound National Talent Competition held at Cornell High School. PDE Dance Ensemble compete 4-5 times throughout the dance season at regional competitions. Our Annual Winter Performance is January 24, 2009 at Ross community Gymnasium. Showtime is schedule to begin at 6:30 with Dancers arriving at 6 pm. Tickets go on-sale 1/5/09 and are not available at the door so please remember to purchase your general seating tickets in advance at the front desk. Please join us after the performance for cookies, punch, & conversation! Any questions, check with the front desk!

Costume for Annual Student Production
Costume for the student production on June 16 have been selected & ordered. Invoices with balances due will be mailed home soon! Do not forget that your costume payments are all inclusive. Payments include costume, tights, Recital DVD, & Recital T-shirt. If you have questions on this, please do not hesitate to speak to the front desk.

Parent Observation
Come watch your dancer January 12-17! It’s exciting for the children to have an audience but too much noise & confusion is distracting so please leave young siblings & babies at home. Due to space & distractions, it is encouraged that each child bring no more than two guests.

Congratulations to Kelly Gallagher who has been selected for the National Honor Society at Shaler High School! Great Job, Kelly!

PDE ENSEMBLE
On November 21st, PDE Ensemble participated in the NUVO Convention. The girls took classes from dance masters Ray Leeper, Mark Meismer, Justin Giles, Caroline Lewis, Laurie Kanyok, & Cory Finn. In addition, Dance superstars Travis Wall & Ivan Koumaev, known for "So You Think You Can Dance?" reality series instructed classes in Jazz and Hip Hop. Participating in the event: Michelle, Amy, Jenna Markovich, Allison Chammas, Angie Hedglin, Alyssa Ferris, Kelly Gallagher, & Emma Chammas. Dress Code Reminders
Reminder to dancers & parents about PDE’s dress code: We require our Hip Hop dancers to wear clean white bottom sneakers that are not worn outside. All other classes, need to be dresses in leotards &tights. Due to the cold of the winter, dancers are permitted to wear sweatshirts/sweatpants for warm-up.

Tuition Reminder
Tuition payments are due to the front desk the 1st lesson of the month. Payments that are paid after the 10th of the month will incur a late fee. There will be no exceptions.

Class Attendance
Please remember that it is essential to your dancer to arrive to class on-time. The beginning of class is structured to greet, warm-up, & get the dancer prepared for the class ahead of them. Late students miss these events as well as distract the other students. Thank you!

Studio Parking
PDE has an ample parking facility. Be sure to park in front of the studio or in the lot behind the studio building. Please do not use our neighbors parking areas! Thank you for your cooperation!

Rental Space
Planning a birthday party or bridal shower? Keep in mind that PDE is available for rental Tuesdays, Fridays & late afternoon Saturdays & Sundays. If you have a date in mind, see Michelle or Amy for rental costs & details.

NUVO Convention

PDE Girls and IVAN

On November 21st, Pittsburgh DancExplosion Ensemble participated in the NUVO Convention. The girls took classes from dance masters Ray Leeper, Mark Meismer, Justin Giles, Caroline Lewis, Laurie Kanyok, and Cory Finn. In addition, Dance superstars Travis Wall and Ivan Koumaev, known for "So You Think You Can Dance?" reality series instructed classes in Jazz and Hip Hop.
Participating in the event were PDE ensemble members Jenna Markovich, Allison Chammas, Angie Hedglin, Alyssa Ferris, Kelly Gallagher, and Emma Chammas. Michelle and Amy also participated in the classes. The girls had a very educational, beneficial, and challenging experience! Way to go!

Three Rivers Arts Festival Performance!

Rain or Shine? Well, it certainly was a rainy day on June 14 when Pittsburgh DancExplosion students and ensemble performed at the Three Rivers Arts Festival! It should be noted that PDE was the ONLY dance studio invited to perform at the Arts Festival this year! Work it!

The rain certainly did not deter these dancers from performing on the Community Stage and giving the audience a good show. Performing at the event was Aubrey Watson, Darbey Naughton, Adelina Otstot, Tyonna Turner, Kirsten Bell Abbott, Jessica Nock, Cassady Moore, Noelle Chase, Olivea McLaughlin, Allison Chammas, Jenna Markovich, Kelly Gallagher, and Emma Chammas.

Pittsburgh DancExplosion ensemble participated in the Dance Educators of America Competition and Convention on March 15 and 16. The dancers competed on Saturday and had the honor of participating in master classes on Sunday. Master classes taught were ballet with Juan Sanchez, Tap with Sheraton Shepherd, Jazz/Lyrical with Jeff Shade, and Hip hop with Todd Evans. Olivea McLaughlin was unable to compete this weekend due to injury. Her presence on the stage was surely missed but she was standing by as constant support and a vital member of our team! Due to Olivea's injury, Mallory filled in for Temptation and Jenna filled in for Wicked Girls! Thank you Mallory and Jenna! This also was Sarah Fadok and Angie Hedglin's 1st competition as PDE ensemble members! Way to go girls!

Congratulations to Allison Chammas for winning the Title of Miss Junior DanceXplosion 2008 at the DanceXplosion Talent Tour USA DXP Regional Competition held at Cornell High School February 16 and 17. Allison was awarded the title of Miss DanceXplosion by being the highest scoring junior soloist of the competition! The routine that awarded her the title was "Bitter," a jazz routine choreographed by Michelle. WE are so PROUD of you Allison! Way to BRING IT!

Way to go PDE for putting out another great Winter Performance and Northway Mall show! Dance Clinic with Keith Clifton!

PDE ensemble students had the honor of participating in a dance clinic sponsored by Creations by Cicci held at the Airport Marriott,November 11. The dance clinic was Technique Progressions and Jazz instructed by master teacher, Keith Clifton. Clifton is an acclaimed dancer, teacher and choreographer based in Los Angeles. His work includes commercials for Dr. Pepper, Wendy’s, Dodge, McDonald’s and Levis Jeans. As a musician, Keith composes his own music and currently performs with the Clifton Drum Tap Trio. Washington Wildthings Performance

Pittsburgh DancExplosion ensemble dancers travelled to Washington, Pa on August 23 to perform at the Washington WildThings game. The Washington WildThings are an independent professional baseball league ran by the Frontier League organization. Performing on the 1st baseline of Consol Energy Park was Allison Chammas, Emma Chammas, Olivea McLaughlin, Jenna Markovich, and Angela Hedglin. Due to injury, Kelly Gallagher was unable to perform but came out to support PDE. Way to go girls, Great Job!

PDE dances at the Pittsburgh Colts Halftime!!!!

On July 21, Pittsburgh DancExplosion competitive ensemble had the privilege and honor of performing during the Pittsburgh Colts halftime at Robert Morris University. The ensemble members participating in the even include Olivea McLaughlin, Kimberly Sawor, Allison Chammas, Emma Chammas, Jenna Markovich, Shane Mills, and Emily Kuhn. The dancers enjoyed the halftime performance and look forward to future halftime performances for the Washington Wildthings.
